On February 2, Wu Lei, Party Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai Electric, met with Luo Delong, Deputy Director-General of the ITER Organization, to exchange views on fusion technology R&D, high-end equipment manufacturing, and international collaboration. Wang Yan, Director of the China International Nuclear Fusion Energy Program Execution Center under China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, also attended the meeting.
Wu Lei commended the ITER Organization for its sustained contributions to advancing global fusion energy research. As a leading enterprise in China’s high-end equipment manufacturing sector, Shanghai Electric remains committed to driving innovation and deepening international cooperation. He noted that fusion energy represents a transformative pathway toward safe, sustainable, and efficient energy systems, with far-reaching implications for global energy transition and climate change mitigation. Shanghai Electric will continue to uphold the highest quality standards in delivering ITER components, fully leverage its engineering and manufacturing expertise, and work closely with international partners to support the project’s steady progress, contributing to the next phase of fusion energy development.
Luo highly commended Shanghai Electric’s performance in the project, emphasizing that ITER’s successful execution depends on the collective commitment of all members. As a milestone in humanity’s pursuit of clean and virtually limitless energy, the ITER project carries strategic significance for the future transformation of the global energy system. At this critical phase of fusion energy R&D, strengthening cooperation with leading industrial partners is more important than ever. Both sides agreed to further deepen collaboration to accelerate the transition of fusion energy breakthroughs from research to practical application, translating scientific and engineering progress into scalable clean energy solutions that support long-term global sustainability.
