Recently, the Equipment Center of the Engineering Service Branch of the Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, together with main forces from various departments, has successfully completed an on-site test on the first set of general-purpose large-megawatt barring gear in China.

The development took 6 months, led by the Equipment Center. The versatile assembly is compatible with Shanghai Electric's direct drive turbines of 6/7/8MW. Using its highly integrated algorithms, the barring gear can rotate impellers in an unbalanced state, and takes into comprehensive account the dynamic load of a single blade and two blades in actual movement and the load under emergency conditions, so as to adapt to the complex environment on site.

With the introduction and implementation of the national policies on carbon neutrality and emission peak, and the increasing pressure on cost reduction in the wind power industry, large-capacity, large-impeller and deep & open sea have become trends in offshore wind power development, which poses great challenges to hoisting. While the general-purpose large-megawatt barring gear can reduce the maximum construction height of hoisting vessels, expand the available resources of hoisting vessels, and reduce the cost of using installation vessels for customers. In addition, this assembly self-developed by Shanghai Electric can address the follow-up replacement of single blade and other impellers in the unbalanced state of direct drive large-megawatt turbines, securing technical support for the post-O&M of such units.
