On July 1, as the entire nation commemorated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the Zhejiang Petrochemical Phase II 200,000 t/d MED project undertaken by Shanghai Electric Water Engineering Co., Ltd. was successfully commissioned at one time. While breaking a number of industry records, the project also celebrated the Party’s birthday in its own way.
The MED desalination project of Zhejiang Petrochemical Phase I surpassed the 100,000t/d mark two years ago, and its dominant position has been maintained ever since that day. While today, the MED desalination project Phase II has been directly raised to 200,000t/d, making it the largest across the country. At present, there are no more than three manufacturers in China with a 10,000t/d LT-MED project, and only Shanghai Electric owns projects with a capacity of over 100,000t/d and 200,000t/d, respectively, and its total project capacity is even larger than the sum of domestic peers.
MED-TVC is a technology independently developed by Shanghai Electric Water Engineering Co., Ltd. through 10 years of exploration and has now obtained completely independent intellectual property rights. The model uses low-grade hot water as the heat source for thermal seawater desalination. By avoiding the use of high-grade steam, it has greatly reduced the cost of seawater desalination. Following Brunei Hengyi, Tangshan Fengnan and Zhejiang Petrochemical Phase I, the new project represents a significant breakthrough with a capacity of 200,000t/d, and has been shown to support three heat sources - steam, hot water produced from aromatics units and process condensate, which plays a demonstrative role in helping Shanghai Electric promote this proprietary technology.
