The year 2020 is the final year of eliminating absolute poverty and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. SOEs, a key force behind the party in governing and rejuvenating the country, should carry out the decisions of the central committee and join the fight against poverty. Shanghai Electric, a Chinese leader of high-end equipment manufacturing and Shanghai's beacon for state-owned enterprises, makes poverty alleviation a political priority. As guided by the Shanghai government, the three subsidiaries will enter into an assistance agreement with Tuotian Village of Fucun Town, Fatu Village of Mohong Town, and Lumuke Village respectively. Talents, resources, and industries will be brought to these poor villages, along with efforts in transforming local ideas and landscape, to solve the biggest concerns of the poor.

At the Fatu Village, Shanghai Electric employees visited poor households to talk with villagers about their difficulties and assistance received and provide support packages.

Shanghai Electric will provide a total of 2.25 million yuan for five years between 2018 and 2020. In the first three years, the donation is mainly used for building roads and streetlights to make travel easier and improve livelihood. So far, Shanghai Electric has built over 5,000 m2 of hardened roads (ditches included), installed nearly 200 solar streetlights, regulated 500 m of rivers, and renovated 100 m2 of entertainment rooms. The project has helped around 1,105 households (4,436 people), including 149 officially registered poverty-stricken households (658 people).
