Recently, BloombergNEF officially published the 2021 ranking of Chinese wind turbine manufacturers in terms of the commissioned capacity of turbines hoisted. According to statistics of the offshore wind power sector, Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group”) increased its commissioned capacity of turbines hoisted by 4.1GW, and took the first place again. In the meantime, the data of onshore wind power showed that Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group’s commissioned capacity of turbines hoisted had increased by 5.18GW in 2021, ranking Top 5 due to its 9% share in Chinese wind power market of the year.

Facing the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic and the wave of offshore installations in 2021, several projects of Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group had set new industrial records, with the hoisting speed as well as product, operation and maintenance quality management on site highly appreciated by owners.

According to the data of the whole wind power industry in China, under the joint influence of subsidy rollback of offshore wind power and the rush on the installation of onshore wind turbines in 2020, the Chinese wind power market had successfully overcome the adverse effects brought by the rise in global raw material price and supply chain constraints with the commissioned capacity of turbines hoisted exceeding 50GW for the second year in a row. The commissioned capacity of wind turbines hoisted in China reached 55.8GW in 2021, showing a slight decrease by 3% compared to 2020, which included 41.6GW of onshore wind power, having dropped by 23%, and 14.2GW of offshore wind power, seeing a growth by 351% compared to the previous year. Driven by the “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” policy, Chinese wind power industry will necessarily usher in new development opportunities.
