Zhangjiakou Chongli Taizicheng Resort Tram Project

Project Information:

The Taizicheng Resort in Chongli District, Zhangjiakou City, is at the heart of the Zhangjiakou competition area during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The tram line starts from the southern end of the plot for exhibitions and hospitality, links up with landmarks of the International Conference Center, Intercontinental Hotel, Snow Hall, Conference & Exhibition Center, Culture and Creation Street, Olympic Square, before ending at Taizicheng Site Station at the northeast of the plot for culture and creation.

The 1.601-kilometer-long line has 6 stations, 5 of which are ground stations and one indoor. The inter-station distance ranges from 165 meters to 340 meters with an average of 262 meters. In the early stages, this line was equipped with one tram base. It was intended to be connected with Taizicheng Site Station during the next step.

In the early stages, it operated as a single path routing, and ran back and forth from Snow Hall Station to Taizicheng Site Station. In case of emergencies or award ceremonies, the start and terminal stations of the line could be changed to Culture and Creation Street and Snow Hall Station.

The modern comprehensive operation scheduling system for trams devised by Shanghai Electric for this project fully integrates fields of train operation control and comprehensive monitoring, which function atop the uniform software and hardware platforms with train control at its core. The system can fulfill a wide range of functions, like supervision, control and dispatch of running train, supervisory control of power and electrical equipment, passenger information distribution, broadcast, video-based monitoring, train operational status monitoring, and smart maintenance.

Customer benefits:

Before Shanghai Electric presented its solution, every field of the medium-capacity transit system had its own servers and terminals, which resulted in a great number of devices being handled by operators and maintainers. It took a long time to train these operators and there were inherent complications with the actual maintenance situation. Even if the system used in certain projects or provided by some companies made basic integration, they still were unable to deliver on customers’ expectations because its architecture, mainly based on the subway system, was “bloated”. Our latest medium-capacity transportation & construction system solution, developed in accordance with new architecture and design concepts, integrates all fields more closely and supports a range of more flexible functions. Operation and maintenance staff can manage O&M services of the whole line after they learn the standard operating procedures of just one system. Thanks to the compact and restructured architecture, the whole system is leaner with higher operational efficiency, reducing the workload by a significant amount.

The solution shows customers what a real “turnkey” project is. Shanghai Electric is one of the handful of Chinese companies that can provide one-stop professional services on rail transit, operation and control, communication, electromechanical equipment, fire control and O&M. As a state-owned enterprise with high credibility, Shanghai Electric can provide cost-effective medium-capacity transportation & construction system solutions by leveraging its rich engineering experience, allowing customers to complete the construction of such systems even without the need to build their own professional team. Shanghai Electric is confident that this construction model will trigger fundamental changes in rail transit, which will drive other professional players to reorganize their structures to address new market trends.
