Shanghai Electric Smart Energy Demonstration Project in Shantou

Project information

The Shanghai Electric Smart Energy Demonstration Project in Shantou is an important demonstration for the construction of low-carbon and zero-carbon parks and even smart cities. It is the largest “energy Internet +” demo project in Guangdong Province, and the first industrial park level “energy Internet +” demo project by Shanghai Electric. The project features the integration of wind power, PV, and storage. The project consists of one 8MW wind turbine, one 4MW wind turbine, a 2.42MW roof-top PV system, 1MW/1MWh lithium battery energy storage, 1MW/1MWh Vanadium Redox Flow energy storage, charging pile, intelligent building management system, “5G +” IOT system for plants, micro-grid control system, intelligent energy dispatching management platform, and more. By virtue of the dynamic control technology integrating “generation, grid, load, and storage”, the project makes the most of the rich wind and solar resources in Shantou to achieve the self-organization, self-balancing, and self-optimization of energy, while guaranteeing strict power distribution reliability and high-quality power.

Benefits to customers

Shanghai Electric independently designed, manufactured, and integrated more than 70% of the equipment used in the project. Following the “spontaneous self-use, surplus electricity to the grid” model, the annual power generation is about 27.86 million kWh, and the spontaneous use accounts for about 36%, reducing 6,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year, and achieving the nearly 100% green energy utilization.
