Making Use of Items Left Unused
2021/11/15  Shanghai Electric Group Co.

On June 12, a post about micro charity projects as part of the Two Studies, One Action plan (study the Party Constitution and Party Regulations, study its speech series, be a qualified Party member) went viral on WeChat Moments. This is the 7th charity event held by Shanghai Electric Properties Co., Ltd., involving 900 participants. This reporter visited the company and had a different experience with charity projects.

Many enterprises participate in charity projects through donation. But few of them are familiar with the model of using the revenues from selling the donated items in charity projects. The Properties Co., Ltd. is promoting this new model inside the organization. Gao Shanshan, a member of the company, told the reporter, "These innovative activities will help strengthen exchanges among employees and enhance corporate cohesion. Hopefully, participating in the charity projects, employees will learn to care for others, the environment and their jobs. All in all, we hope to create a pleasant working and living environment for them."

The company has been enthusiastic about charity projects and organized charitable donations on a regular basis for many years. However, as employees lived in different parts of the city, it would be inconvenient to gather them together in spare time. That was why activity organizers began to figure out new and more convenient ways.

At the end of 2015, Zhu Fangliang, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the company, introduced the most interesting O2O experience-based charity supermarket project in China. Having long been engaged in charity, she once brought study and daily necessities to children in Menghai County, Yunnan Province, and has been working in charity organizations for half a day once or twice a week.

Experienced in the charity, she discovers that the innovative model of the charity store, buy42.com coincides with the belief of the company. "In this process, each item and each action are valuable, regardless of donation or purchase," said Zhu Fangliang, "We have put in great efforts to ensure that the model is convenient and easy to operate and incorporates such new concepts as Internet+ and inclusive integration, making charity activities more fashionable and influential."

In addition to engaging its employees in charity events, the company also takes the initiative to invite professionals in this field to share their understanding of charity with the employees. On April 12, 2017, Ms. She Shiyao, winner of the 8th Shanghai Charity Star, was invited to share her stories about charity.

"For an enterprise, charity is part of its social responsibilities, which must be fulfilled with respect," said Cai Xiaoyan, a volunteer at the company, to the reporter, "I'm proud to see that the company's efforts in the respect have had a positive impact on society."

Adhering to such philosophy, the company donates all the revenues to Shanghai Charity Foundation and Shanghai Buy42 Charity Store, and returns some of the goods not suitable for sales to its cooperative charity institutions. Additionally, the company publishes transparency report on a regular basis to make sure the donors and buyers know that the funds and materials are in fact put in charity events. Greater openness leads to ever greater trust from the participants, more targeted donations and purchases, and more funds raised for charity. This has formed a virtuous and transparent cycle.

Charity, like our lives, needs planning. The future planning of the company for charity will focus on two strategic development directions, namely its brand and innovation. Diverse models of charity will be introduced to make carefully planned charity events more convenient for its employees. Meanwhile, it will also call for involvement of more enterprises and institutions in innovation-driven charity activities. On the journey of developing its main business and realizing its dream, the company will create a good corporate image, enhance the sense of honor and sense of belonging of its employees, and facilitate its operation.
