"Iron brothers, we are coming!" On August 4, Shanghai Pudong International Airport welcomed a special group of passengers. In their hands are the Five-Starred Red Flags and a red banner saying, "Shanghai Electric and Pakistan Join Hands and Tide Over Difficulties Together". These builders from Shanghai Electric Power Generation Engineering Co., Ltd. were leaving for Pakistan for the Integrated Coal Power Project in Thar, which had been hit by the COVID-19. Chen Ganjin, Vice President of Shanghai Electric, saw them off at the airport.

The completion and production of Thar Project, which is key to the "Belt and Road Initiative" and "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor", is of great importance to the two countries and Shanghai Electric. Yet the COVID-19 has brought a series of challenges. Chinese employees were not allowed in, while the majority of local employees stopped working. A serious shortage of operators slows down the construction, a problem facing the projects in Dubai and Pančevo of Serbia too.

With the help of local governments, Shanghai Electric worked with airliners for two-way charter flights to the three overseas projects. Later, three batches of nearly 1,000 builders from the group and the partners would fly to Dubai and Pančevo of Serbia. Thoughtful plans have been made for the charter flights, along with the strictest protection measures and best personal protective equipment. The plane also carried nearly 4 tons of supplies for epidemic control and prevention, living, work, and urgent medical care.
