Overseas power station engineering projects
The first overseas engineering project of the Company began with the 300 MW thermal power generation project in Mustafago, Pakistan. Ever since, the overseas power station engineering business of the Company has become increasingly strong. In 2008, Shanghai Electric was listed by ENR as one of the 225 largest engineering contractors worldwide. By the end of June 2009, the Company had been commissioned to execute 15 major thermal power projects for overseas customers in India, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc., with the installed capacity exceeding 15000MW. It has completed its strategic transformation from a plain equipment supplier to a conglomerate delivering end-to-end power thermal generating equipment and turnkey services for complete sets of power station equipment and engineering.
In 2009, the total value of overseas projects in execution by Shanghai Electric reached RMB76 billion; sales revenue recorded for that year was RMB10 billion, representing one third of income for the thermal power equipment division, thus expanding Shanghai Electric’s share of the power equipment market. By 3-5 years, Shanghai Electric is planning to step up efforts to export half of its production of power equipment to international markets.
