2MW series wind power generation units developed by Shanghai Electric have entered mass-production and are operating dependably at many wind farms. Models available include regular temperature, low temperature, offshore, and intertidal zone types.

In 2009, a 2MW-grade offshore wind turbine manufactured by Shanghai Electric was successfully installed for test-run in Xiangshui County, Jiangsu Province. The wind turbine was specifically designed to remedy shortcomings in offshore wind turbines, in addition to construction of a retrofit design and new installation mechanism, followed by simulation and study in order to achieve optimization.

In early 2010, the Company’s units for wind power generation in intertidal zones were successfully installed in Rudong County, Jiangsu province and put into operation. Through execution of a series of project, Shanghai Electric has finalized a comprehensive exploration and work schedule on offshore wind turbines.

The virtues of independent research and development

From “manufacturing under license” to “joint development” to “independent development”, Shanghai Electric has traversed the three-step process in technology development to master the core technology needed to build wind power generation equipment. By importing the world’s top-notch wind power generator analysis and design software as well as cutting-edge design techniques, Shanghai Electric has built a world-class platform for designing complete sets of wind power generation equipment. We believe the Company’s technology of independently designing a full set of wind power generation equipment, turbine blades, control systems and towers to be superior to those of our competitors.

3.6MW large- scale offshore wind turbine

On 1st of July 2010, a 3.6MW offshore wind turbine, considered the most advanced and largest capacity offshore wind turbine in China to date, left the assembly line. With its compact structure and turbine blades reaching 116 meters in diameter, the wind turbine can be operated with variable speed, variable blade pitch and fixed frequencies. All these technological advances are attributable to an accumulation of know-how in the field of offshore wind turbines.

In the field of wind power generation, Shanghai Electric is rapidly emerging as an important supplier of core wind power generator parts and complete wind power generation units. There are 21 wind power stations under construction using wind turbines supplied by Shanghai Electric and more than 400 wind power generation units have been installed, of which more than 300 sets have been connected to the power grid. Shanghai Electric has also exported China’s first MW-grade wind power generation units to the world.
